Skin infection: as antibiotic ointment, erythromycin ointment is first used to treat and prevent skin infection. Erythromycin ointment can be used for infection of pyogenic skin diseases such as abscess and ulcer surface, and it can also be used for infection at the junction of skin and mucous membrane, such as perioral and perianal areas. Generally, it is used twice a day and thinly applied to the affected area.

In addition to anti infection, erythromycin ointment has the following uses.

Minor trauma: if the body is slightly bruised, scratched or other trauma, erythromycin ointment can be used. The general usage is to clean and disinfect the affected area, and then apply appropriate amount of ointment to the affected area twice a day.

Slight burn and scald: for small area burn and scald, first wash the wound with cold water, and then apply a thin layer of erythromycin ointment on the surface.

Mosquito bite: in case of serious mosquito bite, the bitten part shall be cleaned and disinfected in time, and appropriate amount of this ointment shall be applied twice a day for 5-7 days.

Nosebleed: dry weather will make some people's dry nasal mucosa more vulnerable, so nosebleed often occurs. At this time, it is advisable to apply appropriate amount of erythromycin ointment to the nasal septum, 4-5 times a day, which can disinfect and soften the nasal cavity, moisten the nasal mucosa, improve the internal environment of the nasal cavity, and prevent further bleeding. Do not apply too much to prevent the ointment from flowing back into the inlet.

Angular stomatitis: angular stomatitis is often caused by infection, especially in preschool children. Bacterial angular stomatitis can be applied with a small amount of erythromycin ointment, while taking vitamin B2.

It should be noted that there is also a dosage form of erythromycin ointment for ocular inflammation, called erythromycin eye ointment. The concentration of erythromycin in ointment was 1% and that in eye ointment was 0.5%.

Experts remind you that although erythromycin ointment is widely used, it has no effect on dermatosis caused by fungal infection, such as tinea capitis, onychomycosis, tinea cruris and tinea manus and feet. Erythromycin ointment occasionally causes some adverse reactions, such as local burning, dryness, itching, erythema, and occasionally urticaria like reactions. If the above adverse reactions occur, the use should be stopped immediately.
