Sleep with soft pillow or hard pillow? Cervical vertebra is harmed by wrong selection

Four seas net: sleeping some people like pillow, some people don't like pillow, some people like soft pillow, some people like hard pillow, some people like higher pillow, some people like the first pillow, so what kind of pillow is good for sleeping pillow? Or shouldn't we pillow it? Let's uncover the problem that has plagued people for hundreds of years!

Do you want to sleep with a pillow?

The cervical vertebra is located in the uppermost part of the human spine and consists of 7 vertebrae. The so-called physiological arc is a smooth, forward facing arc formed by the seven vertebrae. This physiological curvature not only ensures the balance of the external muscles of the cervical spine, but also is very important to maintain the physiological state of the spinal canal. The main function of pillows is to maintain this normal physiological curvature.

If you don't sleep with a pillow, it will easily cause the normal physiological curvature of the cervical spine to become a shape, straighten the cervical spine that should have been bent, and then cause damage to the cervical spine. If lying on one side without pillows, the neck muscles on one side will also cause spasm and pain due to over stretching and fatigue, resulting in 'falling pillow'. Moreover, when lying on the back, the head is too backward, and it is easy to open mouth to breathe, resulting in dry mouth, dry tongue, sore throat and snoring. It can also make the head congested and easily cause eyelid and facial edema.

So, the pillow still needs to sleep.

Sleep with hard pillow or soft pillow?

It's known to those who have seen ancient costume plays that the pillows inside are all long, and they look as hard as wood. But in life, few people sleep on such a hard pillow. Because the excellent pillow will make the contact area between the neck and the pillow smaller, increase the pressure of the cervical vertebra, cause neck muscle fatigue, and the scalp will also be uncomfortable with the pillow, thus feeling pain.

Of course, the softer the pillow, the better. The pillow is too soft, the cervical vertebra is difficult to maintain a certain height, which will also cause neck muscle fatigue and damage. Moreover, the pillow is too soft, will make the scalp pressure area become larger, is not conducive to blood circulation. At the same time, too soft pillow will also have poor ventilation performance.

Therefore, it's better not to use soft materials such as cotton and vacuum cotton for the filling in the pillow. It's better to choose plant materials such as buckwheat skin, chaff and kapok, so as to ensure that the pillow has air permeability and retains certain elasticity.

High pillow or low pillow?

When it comes to this, it's easy to think of "rest assured". But in fact, the higher the pillow, the better. Too high pillow will cause the cervical vertebra to lean forward, destroy the normal physiological anterior curvature angle of the cervical vertebra, and then compress the cervical nerve and vertebral artery, causing the symptoms of neck pain, head hypoxia, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia and other brain neurasthenia, and prone to hyperosteogeny.

In the same way, low pillow has a great harm to the cervical spine. Although it is not as serious as not sleeping pillow, it will easily cause or aggravate cervical spondylosis after a long time. In addition, low pillow will also affect the balance of blood supply to the brain, resulting in dizziness, affecting sleep.

Therefore, the height of pillow is very important for cervical vertebra and sleep. Generally speaking, when lying on the back, the height of the pillow should be one fist of one's own; when lying on the side, the height of the pillow is the height of one fist plus the thickness of one palm. Only such a height can make the cervical vertebra in a more suitable physiological curvature.

Of course, there are exceptions. For example, people with high blood pressure, heart disease and asthma should try to keep their pillows as high as possible, while people with low blood pressure and anemia need to sleep on low pillows.

In addition, many people sleep on pillows with their heads only, but their cervical vertebrae are suspended. In the long run, it is easy to cause falling pillows and cervical spondylosis. Keep in mind that the main function of pillows is the neck, not the pillow.
