The reason why Apple was sued for patent infringement is Siri

4hw.com.cn: as we all know, Apple has always been a "patent maniac". If any company infringes their patent, they will take it to court. But recently, Apple has been sued for infringing others' patent. What's the matter? Let's have a look.

AVRs, an Arizona speech recognition technology company, sued apple this week for infringing one of its patents, according to court documents, foreign media reported.

AVRs claims that Apple infringed patent 7558730 of the United States, which is called 'speech recognition and transcription between users using different protocols'. The patent was originally filed in 2001 and was finally approved in 2009 despite repeated applications. Siri first appeared in the iPhone 4S, which was released in October 2011.

The indictment is very detailed and technical, but in short, AVRs believes that Siri's ability to process voice commands on a variety of protocols and operating systems (such as IOS and Mac OS) infringes its patented technology.

AVRs claims that Apple has been aware of the existence of the patent since at least 2013, and that Apple has referred to it at least 77 times in its other voice recognition patents and other lawsuits. AVRs also said it wrote to apple in 2015, but Apple still went its own way because Apple did not stop its intentional infringement.

AVRs asked a jury to hear the lawsuit in the Federal District Court of Arizona, asking apple to compensate for the economic loss not less than the reasonable royalty.

AVRs claims that its speech recognition software was first released in 1994, but its website does not list any products and services adopting its patented technology, which may mean that it is an entity without any actual business, in other words, it may be a patent licensing company.

AVRs said on its website, 'our intellectual property is the foundation of our business model. (compile / frost leaf) more first-hand news, welcome to download Phoenix News client to subscribe to Phoenix technology. For in-depth reports, please search for 'ifeng technology' via wechat.
