How to swim with water in your ears

sihaiwang: it's summer. The hot weather makes people want to rush to the swimming pool and have a close contact with the water. But when swimming, many people will have water in their ears, which is a very common phenomenon. When swimming, water in the ears will affect the health of the ears, so how to prevent water in the ears when swimming? Let's take a look at it in detail!

What should I do when I swim

1. Water diversion method

There are two traditional ways to deal with the water in ears when swimming. The first is the method of attraction. The method is: incline the head to the side with water, press the ears with water with the palm, hold your breath, and then quickly lift the palm, repeat several times, and suck out the water. Practice shows that the effective rate of this method is only about 50%.

2. Skydiving

Stand on the shore, turn your head to the side with water, support your body with your legs on that side, and jump in place several times in a row to let the water flow out of your ears. Practice shows that the effective rate of this method accounts for 80% - 90%.

3. Citation Method

The head is inclined to the waterless side, and the ear with water is upward. Ask your partner for help, or fill the ear with water by yourself, so that the ear with water is downward, or jump a few times, and the water can flow out due to gravity. It has been proved that the efficiency of this method is 100%.

4. Foot jumping

The affected ear is downward, and the gravity of water is used to make the water flow downward from the external auditory canal.

5. Active external auditory meatus

It can continuously press the ear screen with the palm or pull the auricle with the finger; or repeatedly open the mouth and move the temporomandibular joint, which can make the skin of the external auditory canal move up and down left and right or change the stability of the water barrier and the stability of the pressure, and make the water flow out of the external auditory canal.

6. Ear canal cleaning

Use a clean cotton swab to gently probe into the outer ear canal, once touching the water barrier, the water can be sucked out.

Matters needing attention

Due to the unclean swimming pool or river water, the skin and tympanic membrane of the external auditory canal are infected after the sewage enters the ear, or the water in the ear is not treated properly, such as unclean ear digging, etc., the following kinds of ear diseases are often caused: external auditory canal inflammation, external auditory canal furuncle, cerumen blockage, tympanitis, suppurative otitis media. If the above symptoms appear after the water in the ear, stop swimming temporarily, and go to the hospital for examination and symptomatic treatment.

How to prevent water from entering your ears when swimming

First, gently poke your ears with your fingers in the water, and the water won't pour and pull into your ears; or use that kind of soft plug, which won't hurt your ears and is uncomfortable to wear. But it can effectively prevent water from entering.

Swimming will inevitably lead to ear water, after a clear bath, the remaining water in the ears of the swimming pool will have basically self streamed. However, sometimes, because of more earwax and other reasons, a small amount of sewage will stay in the ear canal and cause ear inflammation. In order to absorb the remaining water and sterilize and diminish inflammation, 3-6 drops of medical alcohol can be dripped into the ear canal after bathing. After a short pause, let it flow out naturally.

Swimming will inevitably lead to ear water, so how to prevent ear water?

1. Make a physical examination before swimming. Cerumen should be taken out when there is cerumen in the external auditory canal, otherwise it will easily cause pain and inflammation after blistering. People with otitis media, such as eardrum perforation, dirty water into the middle ear, can make otitis media worse. Therefore, patients with otitis media can only swim with the consent of doctors.

2. When swimming, plug the outer ear canal with absorbent cotton dipped in vaseline oil, which can play a protective role.

3. After swimming, the water in the external auditory canal should be drained in time. When draining, the head tilts to the side of the water, and the water can be drained by gently tapping the head with the palm on the same side. If the inner ear itches, wipe the outer ear canal with 75% alcohol cotton, and forbid hand digging. If you feel pain in the ear, you should go to the hospital in time.

4. Diving to pay attention to posture and methods, do not make the ear directly by water clap, so as to avoid tympanic membrane injury.

5. If it's still water, turn your head to the side of the water. If it's water in your left ear, stand on your right leg and jump. If it's water in your right ear, cover it with your hand!

The harm of water entering into ears in swimming

In summer, when many people go swimming, they often encounter water entering their ears. Because the water has a certain tension, the outer ear canal is divided into two sections by forming a barrier after entering the narrow outer ear canal. Because of the gravity effect of water, there is a side pressure between the water barrier and the tympanic membrane, maintaining the balance of the pressure on both sides of the water barrier, making it difficult for the water to flow out automatically.

Sometimes there is a big cerumen blockage in the external auditory canal, so water is easier to wrap around the cerumen after entering the ear canal and is not easy to flow out. When water enters the ear, it will be closed, hearing loss, dizziness, and very uncomfortable. Therefore, people are often eager to drain the water. Some people even use unclean clips, matchsticks, small keys and so on to dig out the ears, which can break the water barrier and make the water flow out, but it is also easy to damage the external ear canal and even the tympanic membrane, leading to ear diseases. Do not use your hands to dig your ears, so as not to cause infection.
