On the 5th local time, the US Senate held a final vote on the impeachment clause against US President trump. In the two impeachment provisions against trump, abuse of power and obstruction of congressional voting, the Senate voting results were found not to be tenable, and US President trump was therefore exempted from impeachment. Trump first "responded" to this on social media twitter.
On the evening of the 5th local time, trump first forwarded a short video with the cover of time magazine, from which we can see that he will run for president in 2024, 2028, 2032 and beyond. In the short video, Trump's expression is "proud". This tweet was also on the top.
In another tweet later updated, trump also announced that he would make a public statement at the White House at 12 noon local time tomorrow (6th) to discuss the victory in this "impeachment scam".
Trump is the third president in American history to be impeached by the house of Representatives. According to the U.S. Constitution, at least two-thirds of senators must support the conviction and recall of the president. However, given that there are 53 Republican members, 45 Democratic members and two independent members in the U.S. Senate, prior to this vote, public opinion generally believed that trump was unlikely to be convicted and dismissed.
On the afternoon of the 5th local time, the US Senate voted 52 votes against and 48 votes in favor of the impeachment clause accusing trump of abusing power, and 53 votes against and 47 votes in favor of the impeachment clause accusing trump of obstructing Congress. Both ballots were almost drawn by party lines. Trump was not convicted and would not be removed, and the impeachment trial ended.
