It is understood that Wal Mart Supermarkets in Chengdu, Kunming and other places have posted the same notice. Local media reporters in Kunming found that there was a yellow paper "warm reminder" in front of each cash desk when they investigated in Wal Mart's Daguan store: since March 15, 2018, Alipay was suspended in the store. The tip also said that wechat payment was reduced from March 15 to April 1.
The media reporter asked about the suspension of Alipay in front of the cash register. The cashiers said the suspension was due to 'system upgrade'. The cashier only vaguely said "Hmm" to the reporter's "can I use Alipay in the future?". At the same time, the cashier publicized to the reporter that as long as consumers buy things in wechat every six weeks, for every 99 yuan spent, they can get 5 yuan, 10 yuan and other different amount of discounts.
In an interview with the media on March 23, the person in charge of Wal Mart's Yunnan region admitted that Alipay was stopped: from March 15, all Wal Mart stores (15 in total) in Kunming suspended Alipay payment, and 91 stores in the whole west China region (including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing) also suspended Alipay payment.
Wal Mart China also responded to this, saying that since March 15, 2018, Wal Mart West China and wechat have reached an in-depth partnership, will launch exclusive offers, and conduct more precision marketing cooperation based on big data analysis.
