More than 24-hour avalanches in Pakistan controlled Kashmir killed at least 61 people

Many avalanches have occurred in Pakistan controlled Kashmir in the past 24 hours, killing at least 61 people, Pakistani officials said Thursday.

Kadri, head of the disaster management department in Pakistan controlled Kashmir, told Xinhua that the nilum valley was most seriously affected by the avalanche, with 57 people dead.

"The avalanche not only seriously affected some residential areas in the nilum Valley, but also blocked some roads and blocked rescue." Cadry said.

Kadri said that the Pakistani military and rescue organizations are carrying out rescue operations. The military has sent helicopters to the disaster area. Rescue workers are stepping up the search for the remains of the victims and sending the injured to hospital for treatment.

Kureshi, an official of the disaster management department in Pakistan controlled Kashmir, said that the death toll caused by the avalanche may increase because more than 50 houses were completely buried in the avalanche, which does not rule out the possibility that more bodies were buried under the snow.
