How to distinguish acute tonsillitis from chronic tonsillitis

in daily life, tonsillitis is a very common upper respiratory tract infection disease, which can cause tonsillitis in many cases, usually accompanied by throat pain and other symptoms. Tonsillitis is generally divided into acute tonsillitis and chronic tonsillitis. After reading the following analysis, they are easily distinguished.

So what is the difference between acute tonsillitis and chronic tonsillitis?

I. acute tonsillitis

Acute tonsillitis is a kind of nonspecific acute inflammation of palatine tonsil, which is often accompanied by a certain degree of acute inflammation of pharyngeal mucosa and pharyngeal lymph tissue. It is often found in children and adolescents, rarely over 50 years old. According to the pathology, it can be divided into three types: acute catarrhal, acute crypt and acute follicular tonsillitis, but in terms of diagnosis and treatment, it can be divided into two types: acute catarrhal tonsillitis and acute suppurative tonsillitis.

(1) physical examination

1. The patient's appearance is acute. His face is flushed. He has bad breath and thick tongue coating. The lymph nodes in the neck, especially in the mandibular angle, are often swollen and tender.

2. Pharyngeal examination showed that tonsil was congested, swollen, with yellow and white purulent secretion on the surface, and sometimes exudate could fuse into membrane.

3. Hematology examination: the total number of leukocytes increased, neutrophils increased.

(2) diagnosis and differentiation

According to the history, typical symptoms and examination, the diagnosis is easy. We should pay attention to distinguish it from diphtheria, scarlet fever, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, ulcerative membranous angina, monocytosis, neutropenia and lympholeukemia.

2. Chronic tonsillitis

In children, tonsillar hypertrophy, in adults, inflammatory changes, that is, recurrent acute tonsillitis. According to the survey of primary school students aged 6-15, the incidence of this disease is 22. 04%. This is due to the repeated attack of acute tonsillitis or the poor drainage of the crypt, bacteria are easy to breed in the crypt. At this time, the tonsil becomes the place where bacteria hide. Once the resistance decreases, tonsillitis will follow. Chronic tonsillitis can also occur after some acute infectious diseases.

(1) physical examination

1. Chronic hyperemia of the lingual and palatal arch and hypertrophy of the tonsil can be seen in the examination, but in some cases, the tonsil is not large or even atrophic. The surface of the almond is uneven, with scars or reticular stripes.

2. There may be purulent secretion or caseous secretion at the opening of tonsil crypt, which will overflow when squeezed.

(2) diagnosis and differentiation

According to the history, typical symptoms and examination, the diagnosis is easy. We should pay attention to distinguish it from other diseases such as tonsil malignant tumor, tonsil hypertrophy caused by hematopathy and tonsil keratosis. From the above introduction, we can see the difference between acute tonsillitis and chronic tonsillitis, so in our daily life, once we have the symptoms of throat pain, we should timely go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment to determine whether we are tonsillitis. Once diagnosed as acute tonsillitis, it should be treated in time to avoid high fever.
