What is virtual age? How to calculate the virtual age

In China, because there are two calendars, the lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar, everyone has two methods of calculating age: virtual age and one year old. When the new year comes, everyone feels that they have risen by another year. At this time, the rise of one year refers to an empty year. In this article, let's learn what virtual age is and how it should be counted.

What is virtual age

Virtual age, also known as Mao age, is a traditional Chinese method of calculating age. The virtual year is mainly divided by the Spring Festival and one year at birth. Because this is the first year after birth, the virtual year is one year. In order to distinguish two different methods of calculating age, there is the saying of virtual age and one year old.

The so-called one year old is based on the zero year old at birth. It mainly calculates the length of time spent after birth, such as two years and nine months, eight and a half, etc.

The first birthday is calculated according to the year, month and day of the Gregorian calendar, starting from the second day of the first birthday; The virtual year refers to the year of birth as one year, such as the year of birth in June.

How to count a false year

Even if the child is one year old at birth, it will increase by one year every Spring Festival (Lunar New Year). For example, people born in June 2019 will be two years old at the end of the new year.

If you want to change the virtual age into one year old, if it is before my Gregorian birthday, subtract two years from the virtual age to be one year old; If it is on or after my Gregorian birthday, one year is equal to the virtual year minus one year.

Generally speaking, the virtual age is recorded as one year at birth. After the first day of the first lunar month, the age will increase by one year. The virtual age is calculated from the beginning after birth, while the first year of life is calculated from zero at birth.
