The scores of the test are reported in the way of norm reference without passing line
With regard to the explanation of the scores of CET-4 and CET-6, the full explanation given on the official website is as follows:
CET-4 and CET-6 are divided into two levels: CET-4 and CET-6. The design of CET-4 and CET-6 refers to the teaching requirements of College English Course (hereinafter referred to as the teaching requirements). Level 4 refers to the 'general requirements' specified in the teaching requirements; level 6 refers to the' higher requirements' specified in the teaching requirements.
The scores of CET-4 and CET-6 are reported in the way of norm reference, without passing line.
The norm group of CET-4 is about 30000 non-English majors from 16 universities in China, and the norm group of CET-6 is about 5000 non-English majors from five key universities in China.
After each test, the paper scores are converted into report scores according to the norm. The total score of level 4 and level 6 examination report is 710, and the calculation formula is as follows:
In the formula, TOSCO represents the total score, X represents the original total score of each examinee before the normal mode conversion, mean represents the normal mode mean value, and SD represents the normal mode standard deviation. The paper scores after the equivalence of each level 4 and level 6 examination will be converted into report scores by referring to this constant modulus formula.
There are four parts in the individual scores of CET-4 and CET-6. The proportion of the four parts and their scores is 35% in listening, 35% in reading and 30% in translation and writing. The full score of each item is 249 for listening, 249 for reading, 212 for translation and writing. The sum of the individual reports is equal to the total report score.
Each candidate's report score has a corresponding percentile position in the norm group. Table 1 and table 2 below are the percentiles comparison table of the reported scores of CET-4 and CET-6.
