New American Rover the new American rover will set off in July next year

According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported on the 29th, the U.S. Space Agency (NASA) demonstrated a new generation of Mars rover 'Mars 2020'. It is expected to take off in July next year, go to Mars, look for signs of life on this red planet, and explore the way for future human landing and exploration of Mars.

It is reported that NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory disclosed the 'Mars 2020' to the media on 27. Wallace, the project leader, said: "the goal of the rover is to look for signs of life, so it will carry a variety of instruments to help us understand the geological and chemical characteristics of the Martian surface." It is reported that the six wheeled rover has good off-road performance (right figure). It is powered by a small nuclear reactor, equipped with 23 cameras, laser instruments that can carry out chemical analysis, a 2-meter-long mechanical arm, a drill bit that can drill rock samples, and equipment that can produce oxygen in the Martian atmosphere full of carbon dioxide.

According to the plan, 'Mars 2020' will land in the yezelo crater on Mars in February 2021. Scientists believe that the 48 kilometer wide crater was once a lake bed. It was connected with many rivers 3.5 billion to 3.9 billion years ago. Perhaps life once multiplied. Therefore, the rover will search for possible biological features in the crater. It will collect up to 30 soil samples and seal them in sample containers, waiting for the next spacecraft to explore Mars to bring them back to earth. If all goes well, NASA will go to Mars with a probe in 2026 to launch the sample container into Mars orbit, and then the orbiter will return the sample to earth. It is estimated that the whole process will take 10 years.
