In the morning of June 22, 2017, a fire broke out in room 1802, unit 1, building 2, blue Qianjiang apartment in Hangzhou. Zhu Xiaozhen and her three children were killed. Mo Huanjing, the nanny, escaped. Lin Shengbin, the male owner, was not at home at that time. On the same day, the police made it clear that the fire was arson, and Mo Huanjing was suspected of a major crime.

At 9:00 on December 21, 2017, Hangzhou intermediate court held a public hearing in the first instance of the second court according to law to hear the case of the defendant Mo Huanjing's arson and theft. After the start of the trial, the presiding judge asked the defendant and the defender whether to apply for withdrawal according to law. Lawyer Dang Linshan, the defender of the defendant Mo Huanjing, asked the Hangzhou intermediate people's court to stop the trial of the case on the ground that he asked to designate a court other than the Hangzhou intermediate people's court to have jurisdiction elsewhere. The presiding judge informed the defenders according to law that the Hangzhou intermediate people's court has jurisdiction over the case in accordance with the provisions of Articles 20 and 24 of the criminal procedure law of the people's Republic of China. Later, lawyer Dang Linshan, the defender, ignored the court discipline, disobeyed the command of the presiding judge, left the court without permission and refused to continue to defend Mo Huanjing, the defendant. The presiding judge then decided to adjourn the court in accordance with the law.

At 9:00 on February 1, Hangzhou central court continued to hold a public hearing on the case of the defendant Mo Huanjing's arson and theft. After being charged by the procuratorate, investigated and inquired by the court, cross examined evidence, debated by the court, and finally stated by the defendant, the presiding judge declared the adjournment at 20:50. Apart from two brief adjournments, the trial lasted up to 10 hours and 35 minutes.

The indictment alleges that Mo Huanjing, the defendant, has been addicted to gambling for a long time and has high debts. In September 2016, Mo Huanjing introduced the victims Zhu Xiaozhen and Lin Shengbin to work as housekeepers at their home in the 'Blue Qianjiang Apartment'. From March to June 2017, Mo Huanjing stole gold wares, watches and other valuables from the victim Zhu Xiaozhen's home for many times, and obtained more than 180000 yuan. At the time of the crime, there were more than 190000 yuan worth of valuables that had not been redeemed. He also borrowed 114000 yuan from Zhu Xiaozhen for false reasons such as "buying a house". All of the above money is used for gambling.

On the night of June 21 last year, Mo Huanjing used her mobile phone to gamble on the Internet again, losing more than 60000 yuan, including the money from pawning a watch in the victim's house that night. In order to continue to raise gambling money, determined to take the way of setting fire and putting out the fire again to win the gratitude of the victim and borrow money again. At about 5:00 on the 22nd, Mo Huanjing used a lighter to light books, ignited the sofa and curtains in the living room, and the fire spread rapidly, causing Zhu Xiaozhen and three children trapped in the fire and died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The fire also caused damage to some facilities of the room and adjacent houses, with a loss value of more than 2.57 million yuan.

In addition, from July 2015 to February 2016, when Mo Huanjing was working as a nanny in Shaoxing, Shanghai and other places, she once committed theft at the home of three employers, all of which were found by the employers and dismissed after returning the property.

On the morning of February 9, Hangzhou intermediate court held a public trial on the case of the defendant Mo Huanjing's arson and theft, and sentenced him to death for the crime of arson and deprivation of political rights for life; for the crime of theft, he was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and a fine of 10000 yuan. Both crimes shall be punished simultaneously, and the death penalty shall be imposed with a fine of 10000 yuan. The defendant has the right to appeal through the court or the high court of Zhejiang Province within ten days.
