According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at 17:10 on December 4, 2019, 'Chinese power device leader' Chen Xingbi died in Chengdu, Sichuan at the age of 89.

Chen Xingbi, an expert in semiconductor devices and microelectronics, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, professor and doctoral supervisor of University of Electronic Science and technology, member of China Electronics Society and senior lifelong member of IEEE.

Born in Shanghai on January 28, 1931, he graduated from the Department of electrical engineering of national Tongji University in 1952. He successively worked in Xiamen University, Nanjing Institute of technology and the Institute of physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He began to teach in the University of Electronic Science and technology in 1956. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Ohio in 1980 and a visiting scholar and Research Engineer at the University of California Berkeley in 1981, In 1983, he served as the head of the Department of microelectronics science and engineering and the director of the Institute of microelectronics, University of Electronic Science and technology, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999.

Chen Xingbi is the inventor of the famous super junction structure in the international semiconductor industry, which is known as the 'new milestone of power devices'.

In 2018, at the top academic annual meeting in the field of power semiconductors, academician Chen Xingbi was selected into the first ispsd Hall of fame, which is the first Chinese scientist in China to win this honor.
