New standard for waste classification new standard for domestic waste classification signs issued

On the 15th, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development issued the standard of domestic waste classification signs. In this standard revision, the scope of application, category composition and graphic symbols of domestic waste classification signs are mainly adjusted.

The relevant person in charge of the Urban Construction Department of the Ministry of housing and urban rural development said at a briefing held on the 15th that compared with the 2008 standard, the scope of application of the new standard was further expanded. The categories of domestic waste were adjusted to 4 categories and 11 sub categories of recyclables, hazardous waste, kitchen waste and other waste. A total of 4 symbols were deleted, 4 were added, 7 were used and 4 were modified.

It is reported that at present, 237 prefecture level and above cities in China have started waste classification. The garbage classification coverage rate of residential areas in 46 key cities of garbage classification in China reached 53.9%, of which the domestic garbage classification coverage rate of 14 cities such as Shanghai, Xiamen, Ningbo and Guangzhou exceeded 70%.

In addition, 30 cities across the country have issued local regulations or rules on waste classification, and 16 cities have included waste classification in their legislative plans. All provinces and autonomous regions have formulated waste classification implementation plans. Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces have issued local regulations, and 13 provinces such as Hebei have entered the legislative process.

The briefing also introduced the 'national waste classification' applet. The applet is jointly launched by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development and the Chinese government network. In the near future, it will be officially released and run online relying on the 'State Council client' applet platform. It is understood that the applet covers 46 key cities of waste classification in China. Citizens can query the classification of domestic waste through the applet and intuitively see the current classification signs and the adjustment of new standard signs in each city.
