Is the down jacket duck down or goose down? How to choose a good down jacket

Down jacket is the first choice to keep out the cold in winter. It is not only light but also very warm, so it is because the filler in down jacket is duck down or goose down. So do you know whether the down jacket filler is duck down or goose down? Let's have a look

Is the down jacket duck down or goose down

We can't generalize. In terms of craft production, goose down is good only in terms of quality. The reasons are as follows:

1. Filling weight: the same sleeping bag achieves uniform performance. Only 400 grams of goose down and 1100 grams of duck down.

2. Down content: down is composed of feather and down. Cashmere content is generally expressed as a percentage. 60 cashmere means that the content of cashmere in 100 weight units is 80 units. The highest content of duck down is generally 85 to 90, and the content of goose down can reach 90 to 95.

3. The expansion degree of down: the expansion degree refers to the cubic inch of an ounce of down under the pressure of 68.4 g. the higher the expansion of down, the better the thermal insulation performance. Generally, the expansion degree of domestic duck down is about 450, the expansion degree of domestic goose down can reach 600, while the content of Andean mountain goose down imported from the United States can reach about 95, and the maximum expansion degree can reach 700 to 800.

However, in terms of cost performance, duck down may have a more competitive advantage than goose down.

&# 8203;&# 8203;&# 8203;&# 8203;&# 8203;&# 8203; The reasons are as follows:

Duck down can produce up to three seasons a year, but goose down only produces one season a year, and the cashmere yield of each goose is small. The high cost of goose breeding determines that the price of goose down is much higher than that of duck down. If buying goose down is about taste, then buying duck down is affordable. At present, domestic down products mainly use duck down as filling material, which has been tested in the market and recognized by consumers for many years. In foreign developed countries, goose down is mainly used as the raw material of duvet, while duck down is still the main raw material of down jacket.

Duck down is the main raw material of down jacket at home and abroad for a very important reason, because clothes will be washed frequently, and duck down contains a lot of oil, which is a protective layer for down, which can keep the duck down fluffy after repeated cleaning. Goose down contains less oil and is not resistant to water washing. More times of water washing can easily lead to the separation of velvet silk and velvet core, the increase of velvet silk and the decrease of fluffy degree. A down manufacturer once tested 90% down jacket and 90% down jacket. After 20 washing, the down content of down jacket was 85% and that of down jacket was 89%.

The difference between goose down and duck down

1. Different sizes of velvet flowers

Goose down is larger and fuller than duck down, and its quality is better.

2. Different expansion

Generally, the expansion degree of domestic duck down is about 450, and that of domestic goose down is from 450 to 600.

3. Different cashmere content

The highest cashmere content of duck down is generally 85 to 90, and the cashmere content of goose down can reach 90 to 95;

4. Odor difference

Duck down has a fishy smell because ducks are omnivores. Geese are herbivores, and there is no smell in duck down.

5. Different warmth retention

Under the same conditions, the warmth of goose down is higher than that of duck down.

How to choose good down products

1. Look

Check whether the product label information is complete. The label shall be marked with the manufacturer's name, down type, down filling amount, down content, fabric material, product size and other information.

2. Press

Flatten the down jacket, press it gently, and then let it recover naturally to see if it will rebound and return to its original state soon. If it doesn't bounce or the rebound is very slow, it indicates that the quality of the filler is poor; If there is no resilience at all, the filler is likely to be chicken feathers or crushed feathers of other long wool pieces rather than down.

3. Touch

Touch and pinch with your hand to test the softness of its hand, and whether there are large and thick long wool pieces, feather stems, etc. If the handle is soft but the resilience is poor, it is softened wool rather than down; If the handle is soft but there is a short, small and hard feather shaft, it is crushed hair. This down product has no use value.

4. Pat

Slap the down jacket to see if there is dust overflow. If there is no dust overflow, it is a good product; If there is dust overflow, it is fake and shoddy filler products such as crushed wool, which are generally not suitable for use.

5. Knead

Knead the down clothes with both hands to see if there is any down drilling out. If plush is drilled out, it means that the fabric is not anti plush.

6. Smell

Use your nose to approach the down clothing for deep breathing for several times, and then compare it with the general cloth to see if there is any peculiar smell or odor. No smell is the best. If there is an obvious smell, it should not be used.

7. Weigh

Weigh the weight of down products by hand and watch the size of the volume. The lighter the weight and the larger the volume are the best products. The volume of down with a down content of more than 70% is more than twice that of cotton with the same weight.
