How about zongzi? Notes on eating zongzi at Dragon Boat Festival

It has been a tradition since ancient times to eat Zongzi in Dragon Boat Festival, but for some old people and children with weak spleen and stomach, it is better to eat less zongzi in Dragon Boat Festival. The quantity of glutinous rice is on the high side. It is not suitable to eat too much zongzi every time, and you must not sit long after eating zongzi, otherwise it will increase the burden on your stomach and intestines!

How will zongzi eat more? Glutinous rice is too high in calories and should not be eaten too much every time. Zongzi are mostly made of glutinous rice, lack of fiber, high viscosity, not easy to digest. Therefore, when making zongzi, adding some grains, such as rice or red beans, job's tears, yam, taro or sweet potato, can reduce the burden on the stomach and intestines. Eating zongzi with a bowl of light vegetable soup, such as winter melon, bamboo shoots, towel gourd soup can help digestion. Eating zongzi and drinking hot black tea can play a good role in relieving greasiness and eliminating stagnation, but it can't be served with cold drinks, because it's easy to solidify glutinous rice and is more difficult to digest.

Do not eat Zongzi more than 50g (1-2 pieces) per meal. Do not eat it with cold drinks.

Zongzi is best eaten hot

Experts also remind that eating hot dumplings from new packages is healthier. Don't put them cold and reheat them again and again. So it's best to make it by yourself and eat the hot zongzi just wrapped. When making zongzi, you should pay attention to the fact that it is normal for zongzi leaves to be dark for a period of time after steaming. Do not choose zongzi with bright green skin or even blue green skin, because zongzi leaves are likely to be treated with copper sulfate, so the safety is not guaranteed.

In the storage of zongzi, zongzi can be stored in the freezer for a long time after quick freezing. When eating, they need to be steamed completely again or frozen in the microwave oven. When storing, it is better to divide it into small bags that are eaten at one time, which are tightly packed with plastic bags, and open them separately with other raw foods such as meat to avoid cross contamination.

1. When eating zongzi, you'd better drink tea at the same time to help swallow and digest. If you eat less each time, you can choose Mini zongzi;

2. When eating zongzi, it should be accompanied with cold green vegetables and fruit salad;

3. Zongzi should be fully heated, cooked and softened before eating;

4. If someone has stomach disease, they can choose rice dumplings instead of sugar or too sweet;

5. For patients with gallstones, cholecystitis and pancreatitis, do not eat Zongzi with high fat and protein content, such as meat zongzi and egg yolk zongzi.
