It is reported that on October 7 local time, Mara group in Rwanda, Africa, launched two smartphones, Mara X and Mara Z. the company said the two smartphones were the first 'made in Africa' models, which also showed the country's ambition to become a regional technology center. It is reported that the factory costs US $24 million and can produce 1200 mobile phones a day.
It is reported that the two phones will be equipped with Android system, priced at $190 and $130 respectively. The two phones will be directly benchmarked with Samsung's low-end phones sold in Africa. The lowest price of Samsung's phones sold in Africa is only $54, while the price of other unnamed models is less than $40. Ashish thakkar, CEO of Mara group, said that the company's target customers are consumers who are willing to pay higher prices for product quality.
Tagar said, "this is the first smartphone manufacturer in Africa. In fact, we are the first African enterprise engaged in manufacturing."
