A man committed suicide at his Facebook headquarters in Silicon Valley, Northern California, police said Monday.
According to the news released by the Menlo Park Municipal government, at about 11:30 a.m., the Menlo Park police station received a report that an adult man jumped from the fourth floor of a building on the 100th block of Jefferson Avenue. Firefighters and paramedics gave him medical assistance, but he was still unable to survive. The man was declared dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by the Menlo Park police station showed that it was an obvious suicide and there was no sign of homicide.
The San Mateo County coroner's office transported the man's body to San Mateo County Hospital. The official will not disclose the identity of the man until close relatives are notified.
USA Today reported that a Facebook spokesman confirmed that the man worked for the company in Silicon Valley.
"I'm sorry to learn that one of our employees died at our headquarters in Menlo Park earlier today," a spokesman said. "We are cooperating with the police in the investigation and providing assistance to our employees. When we inform our family, we have no information to tell each other. I hope we can provide the latest information after we learn more information from the law enforcement department. "
