Can knee arthritis jog

Running for knee arthritis is not recommended.

Knee arthritis is a common chronic disease of the knee, which is mainly characterized by friction sound and pain during joint activity. The pain is particularly obvious when going up and down stairs, getting up in the morning or standing from sitting position, mainly the proliferation and degeneration of joints, and the damage and destruction of cartilage. Although running is a healthy sport, improper exercise may also cause injury. Unprofessional people who want to lose weight through running may find their knees and legs ache on the first day of running. That's the problem.

For patients with knee arthritis, general doctors do not recommend running to restore joint activity, so as not to cause recurrence or even aggravation of the disease.

Possible problems of running in patients with knee arthritis

Among the people who run, the most common problem is the knee joint pain. The pain gradually appears in front of the knee and around the patella, which is aggravated after sitting for a long time or when going up and down the stairs. This is caused by the constant friction and impact between the patella and the femur during running. Therefore, running can accelerate the degeneration of the knee joint to a certain extent and aggravate the disease.

Knee arthritis should be properly exercised

Patients with knee arthritis do not mean that they can't run and can only rest. If the joints don't move for a long time, the joints will be useless. Any patient with knee arthritis should be known by the doctor and properly trained to restore joint function. Each patient with arthritis should make a personalized training course according to the doctor's suggestions, actively exercise and don't be blind.

What rehabilitation training should knee arthritis do

Muscle strength training

a. Straight leg lift exercise

Take the supine position, keep your legs straight and close together, slowly lift your legs, keep your heels more than 30cm away from the bed, adhere to 15-30 seconds, then put down and rest for 5 seconds, and repeat the training.

b. Quadriceps femoris exercise

The patient takes the supine position, straightens the knee joint, tightens the quadriceps femoris, presses down the popliteal fossa at the same time, and starts the slow contraction of the muscle. After the contraction is complete, he can relax for 2 seconds, and then repeat the above actions for repeated training.

c. Tiptoe

Take the upright position, make a tiptoe movement on the ankle, that is, exert force on the toes, lift the heels, and carry out both legs at the same time. Take tiptoe to the apex as the degree, adhere to it for 5 seconds, relax for 5 seconds, bend and stretch once, and exercise 20 times a day.

Joint activity training

a. Sitting knee extension

Sit on the chair with your feet flat on the ground. First slowly straighten your left leg and maintain the straight leg posture for 5-10 seconds, then slowly put it down and change your right leg. Exercise alternately and repeat 20 times.

b. Air cycling

The patient lies flat on the bed, raises his legs, and slowly steps on a bicycle in the air for more than 15 minutes a day. This method also helps to lose weight.

Aerobic exercise

Knee arthritis may lead to muscle atrophy, so the aerobic metabolism of local muscles will also decline. Proper aerobic exercise can not only improve cardiopulmonary circulation, effectively increase aerobic capacity, reduce fatigue and enhance immunity, improve depression and anxiety, but also significantly improve muscle function and enhance muscle strength.

Aerobic exercise: jogging, walking, swimming, Tai Chi, cycling, etc.
