Record hybrid rice production in Africa far exceeds local rice production

Original title: [focus on China Africa agricultural cooperation] China's hybrid rice has set a high-yield record in Africa

Agriculture is a key area of China Africa cooperation. Since the 2006 summit of the Beijing Forum on China Africa cooperation, China and African countries have been working hand in hand to promote agricultural cooperation, so far 13 years have passed.

Recently, Chinese agricultural technology experts have achieved great success in planting rice in Madagascar, which is expected to solve the food security problem of this poor African country in the future.

This is a 5-hectare hybrid rice planted by Chinese agricultural technology experts in mayiqi Town, Madagascar. Recently, the sampling yield measurement has been completed, and the data obtained has reached 10.8 tons per hectare. Locally, this is a very amazing high yield. It is much higher than the local general output of about 3 tons per hectare.

Lucian middot, Minister of agriculture, animal husbandry and Fisheries of Madagascar; Ranariviru: the use of hybrid rice seeds will greatly increase the rice yield in Madagascar.

Madagascar has a total population of nearly 25 million, of which more than 80% are engaged in agricultural production, but its rice production has been low. Up to now, nearly 2 million people are still threatened by famine and need to import 400000 tons of rice every year.

Lucian middot, Minister of agriculture, animal husbandry and Fisheries of Madagascar; Lanarivelu: the main difficulty and bottleneck of rice development in Madagascar is the lack of high-quality seeds. The second main problem is the lack of technical training.

Hu Yuefang came to Madagascar 10 years ago as an expert in Africa assistance sent by the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Due to the complex climatic conditions, Madagascar has a land area of nearly 600000 square kilometers, with four climates: tropical rain forest, tropical grassland, tropical plateau and semi-arid. In order to cultivate high-yield seeds suitable for various climates, Hu Yuefang has traveled to almost all rice growing areas in Madagascar in ten years.

Under the guidance of Academician Yuan Longping, Hu Yuefang led the team to successfully cultivate three kinds of high-yield hybrid rice seeds suitable for local soil and climate, which were approved by the Malagasy government.

Hu Yuefang, an agricultural technology expert: we must carry out intensive cultivation and scientific management. You have to demonstrate, you have to do every work in detail.

It is reported that since 2007, more than 20 agricultural technical experts from China have promoted hybrid rice planting technology in Madagascar, with a total of 40000 hectares of hybrid rice and an increase of more than 120000 tons of rice.

Lucian middot, Minister of agriculture, animal husbandry and Fisheries of Madagascar; Lanalivelu: not only Madagascar, but the whole of Africa.
