Adidas three stripe logo was judged invalid because of lack of sufficient features

on the 19th, the second European High Court ruled that Adidas's "three bars" trademark was invalid because it had no unique characteristics, but the German sporting goods supplier could still appeal against this judgment.

According to Taiwan's United Daily News on June 19, the EU ordinary court said that this judgment also supported the decision of the EU Intellectual Property Office (euipo) to abolish the previous acceptance of the trademark in 2016.

The Court pointed out that Adidas's three bar trademark is only an "ordinary pattern mark". Although the company has proved that the trademark is used in five EU countries, not all EU countries.

It is understood that Adidas registered three bars as trademarks in 2014, but was challenged by the Belgian company shoe branding Europe. Last year, the European Court also ruled that shoe branding's trademark was invalid on the grounds that shoe branding's' two bars' trademark was too similar to Adidas.
