Chengdu, also known as "Chengdu and Jincheng", is the capital and sub provincial city of Sichuan Province, a megacity, the headquarters of the Western Theater, an important national high-tech industrial base, trade and logistics center and comprehensive transportation hub determined by the State Council. It is an important central city in the western region. As an ancient city with a history of thousands of years, the city name has not been changed and the city site has not been moved for 3000 years. It not only has rich cultural heritage, but also preserves many historic sites, and the Shu Brocade produced in Chengdu is one of the national intangible cultures. In such an ancient city with a long history, a number of historic sites have recently been unearthed.

Chengdu Tang Dynasty city wall on May 20, Chengdu Institute of archaeology announced the latest archaeological achievements. The city walls of the Tang, Ming and Qing Dynasties were found near Tongjin bridge, Qingyang District, Chengdu, which not only added new data and evidence to the study of the changes of the ancient city wall of Chengdu in different periods, but also provided rare and powerful data for the study of the ancient city of Chengdu.

According to the person in charge of the Chengdu archaeological team, these walls were first built in the late Tang Dynasty. Now the remaining walls are about 170 meters long and 8 to 12 meters wide. At present, it is divided into three sections: middle, West and East. Among them, the middle section is the worst preserved, which has been seriously damaged by the current environment. Basically, there are residual bricks left, the east section is also worse, and the west is the best preserved.

The function of these city walls is to drain water and prevent the rain on the city wall from scouring the base corner of the city wall, so as to play a protective role. The person in charge said that at the beginning of October last year, the archaeological team found the rammed earth and brick masonry parts of the ancient city wall at this site. The city wall runs from east to west, and the overall shape is slightly curved, of which the west city is relatively intact.

According to the turn of the layer wrapped outside, it can be roughly judged that it is a brick produced in the Han Dynasty. This is also consistent with the records in the literature. The person in charge pointed out that the Nanzhao repeatedly violated the boundary of Chengdu in the late Tang Dynasty, resulting in the particularly serious damage to the city wall of Chengdu. In 876, the Jiedu envoys of Chengdu Iraq and Jiannan Xichuan slowly repaired and pieced together the city wall of Luocheng, Chengdu.

In addition to the walls of the Tang Dynasty, you can also see the huge stepping stones of the walls of the Qing Dynasty. It is paved with red sand and stone strips on the Sanhe soil. It can be seen that after the Tang Dynasty, the city wall of Chengdu was basically built on the basis of the city wall of the Tang Dynasty.

Interestingly, when the city wall reaches the northwest corner of Chengdu, it turns from north-south to east-west, showing a state of contraction towards the city as a whole, which is also a beautiful legend in history. It is said that when Gao Pian built Luocheng, there was a dream held by the goddess of Longchi in Maoxian county. I hope he won't surround the Dragon goddess Temple by the Yinma River with the city wall, otherwise she won't be able to return to her hometown freely.

Therefore, Gao Pian specially shrinks the city wall here and leaves the Dragon goddess temple outside Luocheng. Of course, Gao Pian made the city wall shrink here. Tuomeng said that maybe it was just one of the reasons. Maybe more factors were built according to the trend of Yinma River, and finally turned Yinma River into Luocheng moat.
