A historical textual research on the inverted Fu character
The custom of pasting the word "Fu" upside down came from the palace of Prince Gong in the Qing Dynasty.
It is said that the story is like this: the housekeeper is trying to please the master. He wrote many words' Fu '. Let people paste it on the storehouse and the gate of the palace. A family member was illiterate. Mistakenly knocked down the 'Blessing' sticker on the gate. The housekeeper knelt on the ground and said servile: Prince Gong has a long life and great fortune. Now Dafu is really here. It's a sign of good luck. After hearing this, Fu Jin thought: no wonder pedestrians say that Prince Gong's house is blessed (fallen). Auspicious words say that gold and silver increase thousands of times; As soon as he was happy, he rewarded the housekeeper and the blessed family. Afterwards, the custom of pasting the word "Fu" upside down was introduced into people's homes by the government; And would like passers-by or urchins to say a few words: blessing, blessing!

Why should the word Fu be pasted upside down?

1. Prince Gong's house said

On the eve of the Spring Festival in the reign of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty, the housekeeper of Prince Gong's house wrote several douda characters of "Fu" to please the master, and asked people to paste them on the doors of the warehouse and the palace. A family member collapsed the "Fu" sticker on the gate because he couldn't read. Therefore, Prince Gong's Fujin (wife) was very angry and wanted to be punished. Fortunately, the big housekeeper was a good speaker. He was afraid that Fu Jin would blame him and hurt himself. He hurriedly knelt down and stated: 'the servant often heard that Prince Gong had a long life and great fortune. Now Da Fu has really fallen (arrived), which is a sign of good luck.'
When Prince Gong Fujin heard this, he turned his anger into joy and thought, 'no wonder passers-by said that Prince Gong's blessing had fallen (arrived), and auspicious words had been said a thousand times, and gold and silver had increased. Ordinary slaves really can't think of such a move! " So he rewarded the housekeeper and the servant 50 liang of silver each. Later, the custom of pasting the word "Fu" upside down was introduced into people in the street by the Da government. After pasting, they are willing to let passers-by or urchins say a few words "Fu is down! It's a blessing! " For good luck.
2. Empress Dowager Cixi said
The second kind of Empress Dowager Cixi said. In ancient China, there has always been the custom of "writing big characters every family on the 24th of the twelfth lunar month". On the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi sent a message to ask the scholars of the Imperial Academy to write some couplets to celebrate the Spring Festival. These scholars took out all their skills, exhausted gorgeous words, and sent them to the Empress Dowager for a look. The Empress Dowager was very unhappy to see that there was not even a word "Fu". Seeing that the old Buddha was angry, the scholars hurriedly knelt on the ground and said, 'please teach the old Buddha.' The Empress Dowager said, 'go and write some & lsquo; Fu & rsquo; The word comes. " The Hanlin people hurriedly went back and wrote a pile of "Fu" words and sent them to the Empress Dowager. The Empress Dowager selected several of them and asked the chief manager Li Lianying to take the eunuch to post them all over the palace.
Who knows, it caused another storm. A eunuch was illiterate and knocked down a 'Blessing' sticker. No one found it that night. The next day, the Empress Dowager came out to enjoy the couplet and the word "Fu". She happened to see that Li Lianying, who was just about to get angry and turned her mind quickly, hurried forward and said, "please calm down, old Buddha. This is what the slave deliberately pasted it upside down. This & lsquo; Fu & rsquo; Word inversion is & lsquo; Fu & rsquo; It fell. It's a blessing, isn't it? " After hearing this, Cixi turned her anger into joy. She not only didn't punish the eunuch, but also rewarded him with several liang of silver. Later, this habit spread to the people and became a custom.
3. Zhu Yuanzhang and empress Ma said
Zhu Zhang, the emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, used the word "Fu" as a secret mark to prepare for murder. In order to eliminate this disaster, the kind-hearted empress Ma made people in the whole city have to stick a word "Fu" on their door before dawn. Naturally, no one dared to disobey empress Ma's will, so the word 'Fu' was pasted on the door of every family. One of them could not read and even overturned the "blessing" sticker.
The next day, the emperor sent someone to check on the street and found that every family had pasted the word "Fu", and another family had upside down the word "Fu". The emperor was furious at the report and immediately ordered the imperial army to copy the whole family. As soon as empress Ma saw that things were bad, she quickly said to Zhu Yuanzhang, 'the family knew that you came to visit today and deliberately pasted the word Fu upside down. Doesn't this mean' Fu Dao ' As soon as the emperor heard that it was reasonable, he ordered the release of people, and a great disaster was finally eliminated. Since then, people have pasted the word "blessing" upside down, one for good luck and the other for the memory of empress ma.
