Why do flowers wither

It is the reproductive organ of angiosperms (Angiospermae, also known as flowering plants). Its biological function is to combine male sperm cells with female egg cells to produce seeds. The process begins with pollination, followed by fertilization, which forms seeds and spreads them. For higher plants, seed is the next generation, and is the main means of natural distribution of species. The blooming and withering of growing flowers is a natural law. From the point of view of life, the pollen fertilizes and the seed breeds the flowers, and then withers.

From the botanical point of view, the withering of flowers after pollination is due to 1. Programmed cell death 2. Ethylene and abscisic acid accelerate the petal withering; while the withering of cut flowers is due to 1. The transpiration and water absorption of petals are weakened 2. The flowers lack the necessary sugar and inorganic salt supply 3. The plant hormones in flowers are out of balance.
