What is norovirus? Is it really that scary?

Recently, I heard about a new virus: norovirus! And it's still very popular these days. Many children have been caught!

According to a friend, the baby began to pull and vomit yesterday afternoon, and vomited what he ate. By this morning, he was more and more serious. He took the baby to the hospital. As a result, seven or eight children had the same symptoms. After the doctor diagnosed, he confirmed that the baby was infected with norovirus.

We are familiar with rotavirus and hand foot mouth disease. What is this norovirus? Is it worse than rotavirus and hand foot mouth disease?

Norovirus, also known as norovirus, is a virus particle discovered in 1972. It can cause non bacterial acute gastroenteritis with acute onset, rapid transmission and wide range. From October to march of the next year is the high incidence season of norovirus outbreak, and people of all ages can be infected.

It turned out that people were infected with norovirus in many places in November last year. In March, the epidemic situation of norovirus infectious diarrhea increased significantly, and the number of retrieved cases also increased significantly compared with that of last year.

What are the symptoms of norovirus infection?

The main clinical symptoms of norovirus infection are diarrhea and vomiting (vomiting is common in children, diarrhea is more common in adults), followed by nausea, abdominal pain, headache, fever, chills and muscle soreness, which are self limited. Antibiotics do not play any role, and most patients can recover 1-3 days after onset. Patients with severe vomiting or diarrhea should seek medical advice as soon as possible.

At present, there are no specific antiviral drugs and vaccines. Patients should be given enough water to prevent dehydration. In mild dehydration, oral rehydration salt can be used, and in severe dehydration, infusion treatment should be taken in hospital in time.

Norovirus is highly infectious, with a relatively short incubation period, usually only 12-48 hours. The period of illness and three days after recovery is the most infectious period. It can be transmitted through food, water, shared tableware and other channels, and easily causes outbreaks in densely populated places such as schools.

To avoid norovirus, prevention first

They should wash their hands before meals; fruits and vegetables should be washed carefully before eating; seafood should not be eaten raw or semi raw; raw water and mixed water should not be drunk; people infected with norovirus should not be contacted.

At present, there is no specific antiviral drugs and vaccines. In case the baby is unfortunately recruited and has a fever below 38.5 degrees, it is necessary to do a good job in physical cooling, and supplement enough water to prevent dehydration. In mild dehydration, oral rehydration salt can be used, and in severe dehydration, infusion treatment should be taken in hospital in time. During the diarrhea period, the baby can be replaced with lactose free milk powder. After the diarrhea is improved, the baby can continue to eat lactose free milk powder for half a month, and then slowly turn to normal milk powder.
