The origin of the Lantern Festival

The origin of Lantern Festival

Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China. It began more than 20XX years ago in the Western Han Dynasty. The Lantern Festival began in the period of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Emperor Ming advocated Buddhism. It was said that Buddhist monks observed Buddhist relics and lit lamps to worship Buddha on the 15th of the first lunar month, so they ordered to light lamps to worship Buddha in the Imperial Palace and temples on that night, so that all the gentry and common people would hang lamps. Later, this kind of Buddhist ritual festival gradually formed a grand folk festival. The festival experienced the development process from the court to the folk, from the Central Plains to the whole country.

At the time of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, the 15th day of the first month was designated as the Lantern Festival. During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the sacrificial activities of "Taiyi God" were set on the 15th day of the first month. (Mt. 1: God of the universe). When Sima Qian founded the "Taichu calendar", he already identified the Lantern Festival as a major festival.

Another saying is that the custom of lighting lantern festival originated from the Taoist "three yuan theory"; the 15th of the first month is Shangyuan Festival, the 15th of July is Zhongyuan Festival, and the 15th of October is Xiayuan Festival. In charge of the upper, middle and lower three yuan are heaven, earth and man. Heaven officials are happy, so the lantern should be lit on the Shangyuan Festival.

The period of Lantern Festival and its folk activities are extended with the development of history. In terms of festival duration, it was only one day in the Han Dynasty, three days in the Tang Dynasty and five days in the Song Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, the lights were lit from the eighth day of the first lunar month to the night of the seventeenth day of the first lunar month, a total of ten days. With the Spring Festival, the day for the city, lively, night lights, spectacular. In particular, the exquisite and colorful lights make it the climax of entertainment activities during the Spring Festival. In the Qing Dynasty, "hundred operas" such as dragon dance, lion dance, dry boat running, stilt walking and Yangko dancing were added.

The origin of the Lantern Festival

The annual Lantern Festival is coming again. This year's Lantern Festival is particularly lively.

About the origin of the Lantern Festival, it is said that in the era of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, there was a maid in the palace called "Yuanxiao". She missed her family very much, but could not go out of the palace. A minister named Dongfang Shuo decided to help yuanxiao, so he thought of a way. Dong Fangshuo disguised himself as a fortune teller to tell the people's fortune, and said: "the fire on the 15th of the first month means that there will be a donkey riding woman to burn here on that day. But as long as on the 13th of the first month, the old people in the city will wait at the gate, and when it is dark, the woman will come. As long as she kneels down and prays, the whole city will be saved."

Sure enough, on the 13th day of the first month, a donkey riding woman came (in fact, it was Yuanxiao's younger sister). The woman said, "I'm here to burn the city, but when the people plead for mercy, I'll give you a prediction: Chang'an is being robbed, the imperial palace is burning, the fire lasts for 16 days, and the night is red." Then he left. When Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty found out, he asked Dongfang Shuo to find a way. Dongfang Shuo said, "it's said that the God of fire loves to eat Tangyuan, so let's call Yuanxiao to make it. After all, she is the best at making tangyuan. In addition, she needs her subjects to make lanterns together. On the 15th night, the streets are full of lanterns and firecrackers are set on fire. At that time, the God of fire will think it's a fire, and will be able to deceive him. On the evening of the fifteenth day, yuanxiao, according to Dongfang Shuo's instructions, saw his family. Since then, this custom has been handed down. Because the dumplings are made of yuanxiao, people also call them "Yuanxiao", and the fifteenth day of the first month is also called "Yuanxiao Festival".

Every Lantern Festival, in addition to carrying lanterns and eating yuanxiao, of course, riddle guessing activities are held everywhere. But nowadays, there are many different types of festival arrangements around the world, such as sky lanterns, bee cannons, fried cold sheets, etc., which have become fixed annual folk celebration activities. It also symbolizes that the new year's festival is coming to an end, which means that after the Lantern Festival, it will be the beginning of school and work.

The origin of the Lantern Festival

It is said that one day in the spring and Autumn period, King Zhao of Chu passed by the Yangtze River and saw something floating on the surface of the river. He ordered people to salvage it. When he looked at it carefully, it was something white on the outside and red on the inside that he could eat. In order to find out what it was, King Zhao of Chu went to consult Confucius. When Confucius saw this floating thing on the water, he said, "it's called duckweed. If anyone gets it, it means that he will revive the country." King Zhao of Chu ordered every family to cook this kind of Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month.

For thousands of years, people are still eating the Lantern Festival to show their missing for their relatives. Whenever the Lantern Festival is over, our family get together to chat with grandma. When my father and mother cook the Lantern Festival, my cousins and I rush to eat the sweet and smooth Lantern Festival together. Everyone got together again to watch TV and eat candy. Everyone was very happy.

Listen to grandma said, the original Lantern Festival is only put brown sugar, sugar and bean paste and other common raw materials. Now we have used some good black sesame, chocolate, fruit and so on. It's all there is. Today's Lantern Festival tastes better and has higher nutritional value than the original one.

I especially like our traditional Chinese festivals. Not only can we have delicious food, but also can we get together and have a happy holiday.

The origin of the Lantern Festival

Since ancient times, the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of may in the lunar calendar is a big folk festival in China. The "Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month" vividly shows the characteristics of the festival. The noisy outdoor games, the grand song and dance entertainment, and the dazzling fireworks reflect the carnival spirit of the people.

Lantern Festival is not without riddles, do you "fans" come? And listen to me: "fan" comes from an interesting story. It's called Wang Shao. In order to vent his resentment against the rich and the poor, he wrote four lines of poems with ironic meaning on the big and bright lantern, "his head is pointed, his body is as white as silver, and he is said to be half a cent, his eyes are on his buttocks, and his clothes are not human." On the night of the Lantern Festival, Wang Shao came to the door of the rich man with the lantern. The lantern came to the door of the rich man. The rich man and his family came to watch the lantern. After seeing it, they were so angry that they cried out: "dare to abuse the master!" After that, he ordered his family to rob the lantern. Wang Shao picked up the lantern and said with a smile, "master, the answer to these four poems is the needle." He began to write riddles on lanterns for people to guess and have fun.

I write here about the Lantern Festival night in ancient times and the age of electricity, but the night scene at that time was decorated with "fire trees and silver flowers never night". The wisdom and superb manufacturing technology of the ancients were incisively and vividly displayed on the lamps and lanterns. The majestic red lanterns, exquisite palace lanterns, ingeniously designed horse lanterns and gorgeous lamps and lanterns have moved me, impressed me and made me proud of the traditional culture of our motherland.

History records the evolution of light, and light develops in history. The ingenious invention and elaborate of the ancients, which has the colorful tonight.

The origin of the Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival, also known as Shangyuan Festival, is another traditional festival after the Spring Festival.

The Emperor Ming advocated Buddhism. As time goes by, many folk customs of the Lantern Festival are very popular today. For example, dragon dance, lion dance, dry boat race, stilt walking, yangko dance, lantern riddle guessing, fireworks and other activities add luster to the Lantern Festival.

In addition to these activities, there is also the custom of wrapping the Lantern Festival. Today, I was lucky to go to my grandmother's house with my parents. It happened that my grandmother was wrapping yuanxiao, so I learned from her. Grandma first used boiling water to mix with glutinous rice flour, and then continuously rubbed the dough with strength, which was as tough as rubber clay. Then she rubbed the dough into the shape of pagoda, pulled pieces of dough from the top of pagoda, and rubbed them into a round ball. She took a hole in the middle, and kneaded the hole with two hands. Put the prepared bean paste stuffing in the hole, and slowly squeezed it with thumb and index finger, Then seal the hole, finally, put the lantern in the palm of your hand, two hands gently round the lantern, so a lantern is made. After watching grandma package yuanxiao, my hands itched and rolled up my sleeves. Although the dumplings I packed were small, different in size and strange in shape, they were praised by my grandmother.

The last process is to cook the Lantern Festival. We put the Lantern Festival in the boiling water. After a while, the water rolls away and the Lantern Festival floats on the water one by one. It's really appetizing to see the white and round Lantern Festival! We all feel very happy when we eat the hot Lantern Festival. My face is full of smiles and says happily: "the Lantern Festival symbolizes our sweet life and reunion."
