Bunun people's traditional festival: peace sacrifice

Peace offering is a traditional sacrificial activity for Bunun people to pray for God's blessing and longevity, including ear shooting offering, eye washing offering, etc.

Peace offerings are usually held on a selected day after weeding in the Millet Field in late April, and then on April 4 of the lunar calendar.

Ten days before the Peace Festival, the men went into the mountain to hunt for about seven days. When they returned to the village at about 3 a.m. the next day, they concentrated in the outer space of the village, burned the fire with fruit pay, and shot the animal ears inserted on the wooden stick in turn. Juvenile men were limited to arrow shooting, and adults were not restricted to form. The one-year-old baby is held forward by the old man and shoots at the deer's ear. He must hit every shot and pray for God to help him grow up and become a good hunter. At dawn, they return home, holding the smelly thatch, dipping in water and facing the sun several times, indicating the elimination of evil and filth, and praying God for good eyesight.

After the Peace Festival, the leader and men moved the fire into the club, and women and dogs were prohibited. The leader cuts animal meat, one for each, roasts it on the fire, and then drinks and eats, sings and dances impromptu, talks and is in a good mood.
