The smallest frog in the world

The smallest frog in the world

Papua New Guinea, an island country in the western South Pacific, is the second largest country in Oceania and a member of the Commonwealth. Researchers have found a tiny frog, paedophryne amanuensis, here.

The amawutong frog is a frog that grows in New Guinea and has a body length of 7.7 mm (males range in length from 6.2 to 7.3 mm, but it must parasitize on the female and eventually transform into one of its fins). It is the smallest known vertebrate species in the world. It was first discovered in August 2009 and formally described in January 2012.

The species was identified in August 2009 by reptilian and amphibian scientist Chris toffer of Louisiana State University
