The old man saved the strange bird. It was a national protected animal

When Wu Laohan, who lives in Linan plain village, Xianyou, was working in the field, he found a mysterious big bird with a peacock's crown and a woodpecker's long beak trapped in the isolation net in the field. Then he took the bird off the net and took it home to recuperate. According to the staff of the wildlife protection station of Xianyou County Forestry Bureau, the mysterious bird is a national second-class protected animal, Dai Sheng.

The reporter saw this strange bird in the home of Wu Laohan. The bird is about 30cm long, with a striking crown on its head. When it stands upright, it looks like an open folding fan. The top of the crown is black, and the beak is about 10cm long, similar to a woodpecker, with black and white patterns on its feathers.

According to Wu Laohan, he carried a hoe to work in the field, and suddenly found something moving on the isolation net set up in the field. When he came closer, he found the big bird he had never seen before. He hurriedly came forward to untie the bird from the Internet, and found that the bird's leg was broken and could not fly, so he took the bird home to heal.

Wu Laohan said that he wanted to feed the bird with rice and water after he took it home, but because his beak was too long, he couldn't feed it for so many days. Seeing that the bird was injured and hungry, he didn't know what to do. He hoped that the relevant departments could save the lovely bird.

The reporter then reported to the wildlife protection station of Xianyou forestry bureau that after seeing the photos provided by the reporter, a staff member of the station said that the strange bird was a national second-class protected animal 'Desheng'. In 2008, Desheng bird was rated as a national bird by Israel. He told reporters that Dai Sheng can adapt to a variety of environments, and can survive in mountains, plains, forests, grasslands and even stone beaches. Because Dai Sheng mostly likes to work alone or in pairs, and rarely gathers in groups, people don't often see it.

According to the staff, Daisheng uses its special long mouth to dig and eat various insects and larvae, especially underground pests such as mole cricket and golden needle worm, which are beneficial to agriculture and forestry. It feeds on insects and makes its nest in the hole on the tree. Therefore, Daisheng is a famous beneficial bird, which plays an important role in the protection of forests and farmland. It has been listed in the "national protected" issued by the State Forestry Administration on August 1, 2000 List of useful or valuable terrestrial wildlife for economic and scientific research.

At present, Mr. Wu is actively contacting with relevant departments to receive Dai shengniao. During this period, he will temporarily act as a 'bird nanny'.
