According to gasken, Samsung has announced that the new anti-theft function will be officially released on July 1. With the introduction of new features, mobile phone thieves will no longer be able to use the locked mobile phone, even if the SIM card is replaced or the mobile phone software is intruded. Samsung declined to comment on the news.
In addition, Apple also launched the "activation lock" function at WWDC conference. After the phone is locked, the thief must enter a password to activate the phone again. Apple executives said that this would be a very useful anti-theft function. Install 'terminate switch'
Schneiderman said Thursday he would urge companies such as apple, Samsung, Google and Microsoft to install 'stop switches' for mobile phones by the beginning of next year to prevent theft and make stolen phones worthless on the global black market.
According to people familiar with the matter, schneiderman will file a lawsuit or issue a subpoena to investigate if the company fails to comply with the relevant requirements. Set up 'smart phone protection alliance'
Gasken and schneiderman held a press conference on Thursday, announcing that they will investigate mobile phone manufacturers that have not added anti-theft features, and form a 'smart phone protection alliance' with the attorney general and local prosecutors of multiple cities.
Some mobile phone manufacturers do not install the anti-theft function intentionally because of the interest relationship, because users have to buy new mobile phones after their mobile phones are stolen. According to lookout, a mobile security research organization, the annual revenue generated by the theft of new computers by US users is up to 30 billion US dollars. The smart phone protection alliance will focus on investigating such behaviors of mobile phone manufacturers.
Gasken pointed out that about 1.6 million U.S. citizens were the victims of smartphone theft last year, and the Federal Communications Commission said that about 40% of robberies in large cities were related to mobile devices.
