Samsung will release a new anti-theft function to reduce mobile phone theft on July 1

Recently, San Francisco district attorney George bull Gaskin said Thursday that Samsung had promised to add new features to its smartphones, allowing users to lock their phones remotely after they have been stolen. A number of mobile phone manufacturers have recently been asked by the United States to add anti-theft features to mobile phones to combat smartphone theft!

Gasken and New York Attorney General Eric & bull; schneidman invited major mobile phone manufacturers to attend the smartphone summit in New York on Thursday to make a commitment to jointly fight against smartphone theft.

According to gasken, Samsung has announced that the new anti-theft function will be officially released on July 1. With the introduction of new features, mobile phone thieves will no longer be able to use the locked mobile phone, even if the SIM card is replaced or the mobile phone software is intruded. Samsung declined to comment on the news.

In addition, Apple also launched the "activation lock" function at WWDC conference. After the phone is locked, the thief must enter a password to activate the phone again. Apple executives said that this would be a very useful anti-theft function. However, gasken believes that this function does not achieve the purpose of completely losing the value of stolen mobile phones.

Install 'terminate switch'

Schneiderman said Thursday he would urge companies such as apple, Samsung, Google and Microsoft to install 'stop switches' for mobile phones by the beginning of next year to prevent theft and make stolen phones worthless on the global black market.

According to people familiar with the matter, schneiderman will file a lawsuit or issue a subpoena to investigate if the company fails to comply with the relevant requirements. Schneiderman also expressed his concern that if the mobile phone manufacturers do not increase the anti-theft function as required, the mobile phone users may be injured or even lose their lives in the mobile phone robbery.

Set up 'smart phone protection alliance'

Gasken and schneiderman held a press conference on Thursday, announcing that they will investigate mobile phone manufacturers that have not added anti-theft features, and form a 'smart phone protection alliance' with the attorney general and local prosecutors of multiple cities.

Some mobile phone manufacturers do not install the anti-theft function intentionally because of the interest relationship, because users have to buy new mobile phones after their mobile phones are stolen. According to lookout, a mobile security research organization, the annual revenue generated by the theft of new computers by US users is up to 30 billion US dollars. The smart phone protection alliance will focus on investigating such behaviors of mobile phone manufacturers.

Gasken pointed out that about 1.6 million U.S. citizens were the victims of smartphone theft last year, and the Federal Communications Commission said that about 40% of robberies in large cities were related to mobile devices.

Law enforcement agencies in every state in the United States say Apple's devices are the number one target for thieves because they are the most valuable on the black market. After the equipment is stolen, it can even be smuggled to Hong Kong and other regions.

Mobile phone theft has become a relatively high incidence of cases, a small number of mobile phones have been secretly passed by! I hope the real useful mobile phone anti-theft function can be developed early!
