Autumn culture method of Pelargonium: use gibberellin to treat Pelargonium

Pelargonium, with its rich colors, is a good flower for window sill decoration in the west, especially in Europe, such as Germany and Austria. After the hot summer, the semi dormant sunflower began to regain its vitality, grow leaves and bloom again, adding color to the golden autumn. So how do we raise geranium in autumn? Let's look down together!

Cultivation methods of Pelargonium in autumn

Autumn cultivation method of Pelargonium: the Pelargonium which just passed through the hot summer is unavoidably weak due to the aging of its roots and leaves. The leaves are small and dark green, the petioles and inflorescence petioles are short, the flower balls are small, and the whole plant is in clusters, which reduces the ornamental value. The treatment of geranium with gibberellin can effectively promote the flourishing of leaves and flowers and improve the ornamental value.

The method is to spray the whole plant with 500 ppm gibberellin solution once when the inflorescence stalks of the first batch of flowers change from bending to upright, that is, when the newly shady branches spread 3 D 4 leaves after the geranium plants grow again in summer. This method is not only suitable for perennial old plants, but also for cutting seedlings in spring of that year. After treatment, the petiole length was 10d12cm, the control was 5d7cm; the inflorescence petiole length was 15d20cm, the longest was 24cm, the control was 7d10cm; the single petiole length was 3d5cm, the control was only 2cm. The length and width of petals increased by 0.5cm, but the shape, number and color of petals were not affected. The leaves changed significantly to light green, and the size remained unchanged.

Petioles and petioles are short, and flower bulbs are small

Because Pelargonium belongs to umbel or cyme, the number of florets is various, overlapping clusters are globular inflorescences. The size of the flower ball does not depend on the number of flowers, but mainly on the size of the single flower and the length of the petiole. After treatment, due to the growth of single petiole, the flower ball became significantly larger. Some varieties of cymes, such as Hydrangea purpurea and lotus, have a diameter of 15C and 20cm. Some varieties of umbels, such as taohuamian, Danlu Fenhe and so on, have no secondary inflorescence stalk, so the growth of flower ball is less, but it can also reach more than 10 C. In addition, because the growth of peduncle is the most significant (generally 1.5 times of the control), the flower ball is towering over the leaves, graceful, very bright and eye-catching, so it is more suitable as a cut flower.

Plants tend to be loose

The only disadvantage of Gibberellin Treatment of geranium is that the top of the branch becomes thin and weak, and then the branches and leaves become thin and thin, which makes the plant tend to loose. The method of adjustment is to leave a leaf above the inflorescence and cut it off within one week after treatment, and a well-developed lateral bud in the axillary of the first leaf under the inflorescence will germinate and branch out. Because the lateral bud germinated after a week of Gibberellin Treatment, it was not affected, so the branch was as strong as before. When the treated inflorescence is in full bloom, the new branch has bud, and can still be treated with gibberellin once again. After repeated treatment, the geranium flowers will be luxuriant and the ornamental value will be greatly increased.
