Cockscomb planting: sowing planting cutting planting

Celosia

Cockscomb is an annual flower of amaranth family. In addition to the common red varieties, there are yellow, purple, white, orange and multiple colors. The inflorescence has spikes in addition to the cockscomb.

Growth habits: cockscomb like dry and hot air environment, suitable for cultivation in sunny places, not cold resistant, afraid of waterlogging. Cockscomb is mostly cultivated in the open, or potted, and requires fertile sandy loam.

1、 Sowing: in spring, the seeds should be soaked in cold water for 5-6 days before sowing. The seeds of cockscomb are small and can be sown with sand. Before sowing, soak the potted soil, cover the soil with a thickness of no seeds, cover the potted surface with glass, and remove it in time after sprouting. The optimum temperature for seed germination is 17-21 ℃.

Potting: when the seedlings grow 2 leaves, they are transplanted and planted in potting or open field. The basin of cockscomb flower should be a little deep, only the cotyledons should be kept on the basin soil surface, and the loam and fertile soil of 1:1 can be used. If you want to cultivate large-scale cockscomb, you need to change large basin, but pay attention not to loose lump, otherwise slow seedling time is too long or even die.

Flowering time: it is usually from April to May and from August to September when sowing in open field. The most suitable flowering temperature is 24 ~ 25 ℃. Sowing in June can bloom on the national day.

Fertilizer and water: in the growth process of cockscomb flower, it is necessary to fully control water and fertilizer, and topdressing when the flower bud is formed, otherwise it will cause excessive growth.

Seed retention: cockscomb is cross pollinated, easy to cross naturally, which makes the flower type and color change, and lose the characteristics of the variety. Therefore, attention should be paid to isolation between varieties. The seeds of the lower part of the inflorescence should be collected when the seeds are kept.

2、 Cutting: cockscomb can also be cut propagation. The method is to remove the heart when the height of the seedling is about 15 cm, and promote its lateral branches. And then in July for a trim. Remove the lower blade from the cut tip, insert it into the sand for 1 / 3, and put it in the dark. It can take root about 2 weeks later. It can be potted in the third week and bloom in October.
