The method of making Gardenia leafy and flowering: like fertilizer, light and moisture

Gardenia leaves a deep impression on us with its white jade like image, so many flower friends also want to plant it at home, but do you know any way to make Gardenia flourish? This article is the conclusion of senior flower friends after several years of exploration. Let's go and have a look~

Methods of making Gardenia leafy and flowering: 1. Select appropriate pot soil. Gardenia jasminoides is an acidic flower, and the suitable pH value is 5 to 6. If the soil acidity is not appropriate, it will get twice the result with half the effort in the future management. The cultivation soil can be rotten leaf soil, peat soil or retting sawdust plus half of the garden soil. Do not use old wall soil and cinder. It is more convenient and practical to use commercially available Clivia soil.

2. Scientific watering. Gardenia likes moist soil and high air humidity. Keep the basin soil moist during the growth period from April to September. When the surface of the basin soil is dry, water it. At night, spray water on the leaf surface with a watering can. If dry and wilt, it will be unfavorable to growth. If it grows too fast and has long internodes, it will not be watered at night. It will be watered when the sun comes out in the morning. In northern alkaline water areas, tap water should be reused for two days. Every three or five days, water the leaves with an aqueous solution of 0.5g citric acid and 1g ferrous sulfate per liter to make them oily and green.

3. Rational fertilization. Gardenia likes fat. 3% rotten cake fertilizer can be added to the culture soil as base fertilizer. In the growing season, the alum fertilizer water retted with cake fertilizer and ferrous sulfate can be poured once a week, or 0.1% humic acid fully nutritious organic liquid fertilizer can be used. Pouring 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution once or twice in the budding stage can make the flowers hypertrophy and rich fragrance. Fertilizer shall be stopped when the temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer and below 15 ℃ in autumn.

4. Get more sun. Gardenia likes light and can grow in semi shade for a long time, but its flower branches are longer and there are fewer flowers. In addition to the strong light at noon from July to August, which needs shading and winter dormancy, it generally needs to be maintained in the sun to flourish.

5. Winter dormancy is good. Gardenia jasminoides can overwinter in the open field in Qinling area of China, but the root system of potted Gardenia will be damaged after severe winter and recover slowly in spring. The winter in the heated room is not affected by freezing, but the light is insufficient and the growth is thin. Most of the young buds formed in autumn fall off and bloom late the next year. A better way is to put the potted flowers in the cold room about 5 degrees Celsius to make them dormant, or to wrap the flowerpot with foam material and other thermal insulation materials, to protect the roots, to overwinter in the leeward direction, to recover quickly in spring, and to bloom early.

6. Timely change the basin soil. The seedlings are planted in small pots and gradually changed into large pots. When the crown width is 2 to 3 times the diameter of the basin, it is time to change the basin. The growing season can be changed at any time. After pouring the basin, even the soil lump is planted into the new basin, and the diameter is about 5cm larger than the original basin. Family potting when the pot reaches about 28 cm, generally no longer change the pot, but only change the pot soil. It is better to change the soil in March in spring. After pouring the pot, cut off some old roots, shake off half of the old soil, plant it in the pot with new soil, pour it into the water, put it in the warm half shade, and keep it in the sun when new buds sprout.

7. Trim properly. The Gardenia jasminoides seedlings shall be knocked off the top at the height of 20cm from the trunk, leaving 3 to 4 branches. When branching 2 pairs of leaves, the top shall be knocked off to promote branching, and they can grow freely in the future. Gardenia minor needs no topping. After flowering every year, trim gently, cut off the inner bore branches, sick and weak branches, and cut individual long branches short. When the crown width of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis is too large after 4 to 5 years, it can be strongly pruned after flowering. Generally, leave 2 pairs of leaves on the upper branches, and erase the inward growing buds and the buds at the lower part of the trunk after budding. The plant shape will become more compact and beautiful. Remember that gardenia should not be cut short in spring, otherwise it will not bloom in that year.
