Cultivation method of Canna: suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil with good drainage

I believe most people are familiar with Canna, and there are many people who have Canna in their families. Today, we will discuss how to cultivate potted Canna and what matters should be paid attention to in the process of Canna cultivation. Let's have a look.

Canna pot culture methods (basic knowledge): the best growth soil: loose and fertile, good drainage sandy loam soil growth best;

The best propagation time: the best propagation time of potted plants is from March to April;

Requirements for growth humidity: during the growth period, spray water on the leaf surface 1-2 times a day to maintain humidity;

The optimum growth temperature was 15-30 ℃;

The best growth light: full day, the growth period requires sufficient light, to ensure that every day to accept at least 5 hours of direct sunlight.

Notes for Canna potting: soil selection:

The diameter of Canna flowerpots should be at least 20 cm and the depth should be relatively deep. If the flowerpots are too small, they are not suitable for Canna.

In addition, Canna has no strict requirements on soil, and it grows best in loose and fertile sandy loam with good drainage, and also adapts to the growth of fertile clay soil. Basin soil should be mixed with rotten leaf soil, garden soil, peat soil, mountain mud and other soil rich in organic matter. It is better to select dwarf Canna varieties for potted cultivation. Generally, it is better to use rotten leaf soil, vegetable garden soil and rice husk ash as raw materials in the ratio of 1:1.5:0.5, and add a small amount of soybean cake, bone meal and other fertilizers. From March to April in spring, take out the tuber, remove the rotten part, select the tuber with 2-3 strong buds and bury it in the basin soil, the best bud tip is exposed in the basin soil.

Variety selection:

If there are conditions, Canna should try to choose low stem and big flower varieties, and high stem varieties are not easy to blossom. Of course, ordinary varieties are OK, but the effect will be poor.

Planting method:

In late April, the Canna tubers were taken out and buried in sunny plain sand soil to keep moist. After more than ten days, the roots would germinate and grow new roots. At this time, transplant human basin, upper cover soil 3 to 4 cm, pouring water, placed in the sun. Use basin to choose 30 to 40 cm diameter large basin, basin soil to be fertile, loose.

Water and fertilizer management:

Moderate water intake and frequent fertilization. Canna growing long-term basin soil to see dry and wet, rainy season to drain waterlogging at any time to prevent waterlogging. The basin soil should be dry in dormancy period. Like fertilizer, in addition to adding some bone meal and NPK compound fertilizer in the cultivation soil, NPK compound fertilizer should be applied once a half month in the growth period, not when flowering, and continue to apply after flower withering. Avoid applying nitrogen fertilizer alone, otherwise there will be more leaves and less flowers. No fertilizer was applied during dormancy.

Methods of reproduction:

(1) Ramet: from March to April, take out the stored rhizome, cut off the rotten part, and bury the rhizome with 3-4 buds into the soil, then pour enough water.

(2) Sowing: Canna seeds are very hard, so you should cut the seed coat before sowing, soak in 25-30 ℃ water for one day and then plant again. After sowing, cover 2 cm soil to keep moist, germinate in about 3 weeks, and plant when 2-3 true leaves grow.

Pruning method:

When the flower at the end of the stem falls behind, the stem and branch should be cut off from the base at any time, so as to germinate new buds, grow flower branches and blossom one after another.

Pest control:

From May to August every year, we should pay attention to leaf curling insects, so as not to damage its tender leaves and inflorescence. It can be sprayed with 800 times 50% dichlorvos or 1000 times 50% metronidazole EC. When Canna plantain is planted in the field, the ground tiger occurs occasionally, so it can be caught artificially or the root soil can be irrigated with trichlorfon 600-800 times.

Daily maintenance of Canna: as long as the temperature and other conditions are suitable, Canna can grow all year round. The temperature of winter should not be lower than 5 ℃, but it's best to make it dormant in winter. Dormancy temperature is 13 ℃. If the temperature is too low, chloasma will appear on the leaf tip and leaf edge.

The Canna should be placed in a well lit place. If the light is too weak, the stripes on the leaves will turn green, the basal leaves will turn yellow, and lose the ornamental value. During the cultivation period, the water quality should be kept clean, and the water should be watered 1-2 times a week to prevent the trunk from rotting. In summer, high temperature can be used to improve air humidity and spray water on leaves to keep moist.

During the growing period, Canna should be properly applied with extra root fertilizer, and sprayed with 100 times diluted nutrient every half month. After several years of cultivation, if the plant is too tall or the leaves fall off from the lower part of the stem, and the plant shape is poor, it should be pruned. Every year in early spring to change the basin or soil. If the environment is not suitable for potted Canna, there will be red spider, thrips, scale insects and other hazards.

In addition, excessive ventilation, drought, irregular watering and excessive fertilization can cause leaf tip scorch.
