1、 Growth habit of Osmanthus fragrans L

Osmanthus fragrans likes to grow in a warm and humid environment with moderate light, ventilation and shelter from the wind. It is suitable for growing in fertile and well drained slightly acidic soil, and has high temperature resistance and cold resistance. The optimum temperature for growth and development is 25 ℃ to 28 ℃. Over 30 ℃ has a slight effect on growth, and below - 6 ℃ may be affected by freezing injury.

2、 The precautions for daily maintenance are as follows:

1. The water management of potted Osmanthus fragrans is difficult. Excessive watering often leads to overgrowth, poor drainage and water accumulation in the basin are easy to cause rotten roots. Therefore, daily maintenance must pay attention to not more watering, even if more water is needed in the early flowering stage, the basin soil should be avoided to be too wet. After the rain, the water in the basin should be drained in time, and the watering should be controlled properly during the flowering period, otherwise serious flower drop will be caused. In case of autumn rain, the flowerpots should be moved into the balcony or the shelter under the corridor immediately, and try to make use of the gap between the two rainy days to let the plants receive more light.

2. Sweet scented osmanthus is fond of fertilizer. In the growing season, it should be applied with decomposed thin liquid fertilizer every 7 to 10 days, and dry fertilizer before and after flowering. During the whole growth period, more phosphorus and potassium should be applied.

3. During the growth period, sufficient light is needed. Osmanthus fragrans is a long sunshine plant and likes strong light. If the plant does not get enough light during the growth period, it will lead to excessive growth of branches and leaves, affect the formation of flower buds, and cause failure to blossom.

4. If the potted Osmanthus fragrans don't change pots and soil for a long time, it will lead to plant nutrition deficiency, root knot can't extend and affect flowering.

Therefore, potted Osmanthus fragrans should be changed every 1 to 2 years. The soil can be changed once a year before germination in spring, and a small amount of hooves should be applied as base fertilizer. More phosphorus and potassium should be applied during the whole growth period. At the same time, the dense or aged fibrous roots should be pruned properly. From April to September, it should be cultured in a ventilated and sunny place.

5. Winter management, winter should be placed in a low temperature after entering the room to make it dormant, the next year to thrive, luxuriant. If the room temperature is high, Osmanthus fragrans can not be fully dormant, it will sprout and expand leaves ahead of time, resulting in weak branches and consuming a lot of nutrients. When it comes out of the room in spring, it is easy to wither and die in case of dry wind.

In winter, too much watering or insufficient light in the place will easily cause a large number of fallen leaves and affect the flowering in the next year.

6. To prevent smoke pollution, Osmanthus fragrans is not resistant to smoke. If it is allowed to grow in the polluted air, it will lead to poor growth, smaller leaves and easy to fall off, less or no flowering.
