Experts remind: infants should be guaranteed enough sleep at night

Is lack of sleep at night easy to lead to obesity? Relevant data show that: the sleep status of infants before the age of 5 will have an important impact on their weight in the future, so it is important to arrange sleep time reasonably to prevent childhood obesity.

Sleep deprivation at night increases the risk of childhood obesity in infants and young children, according to a new study published in the United States.

The study was conducted by researchers at UCLA and Washington State University. From 1997 to 2002, 1930 infants and children were involved in the study.

The researchers divided the subjects into two groups: the infant group, aged between 1 month and 59 months, and the childhood group, aged between 5 and 13 years. At the end of the study, 33% of infants and 36% of children were overweight or obese, respectively.

The study found that the cause of obesity in the infant group was closely related to previous lack of sleep at night, but the relationship between the two was not obvious in the childhood group. The reason of obesity in childhood group is more related to eating habits and genetic factors.

The researchers pointed out that the results of the survey show that the sleep status of infants before the age of five will have an important impact on their weight in the future, so it is important to arrange the sleep time reasonably for the prevention of childhood obesity.
